OUR MISSION

...Man of Tea is not "another gendered product"?

This company was created to fill a gap in the hot beverage market while simultaneously drawing attention and addressing a problem in male culture: Men don't talk enough.

I'm not talking about gossip and chit chat, I'm talking about feelings, stress, anxiety, and all the things that, when left bottled up in our heads, can cause serious health issues, and in too many cases, lead to suicide.

For centuries people have gotten together around hot and cold beverages to share stories, catch up, vent and socialise. But for some strange reason the modern man doesn't share the subtle-teas (I hate that I did that, but we're keeping it) of their lives. We want to change this.

We want men to share their feelings with their friends and family. We want men to talk about the shit that's stressing them out. We want men to feel comfortable asking for help. We don’t want men to feel alone in the challenges that they face. We want to help redefine what it means to be a "modern man" as someone who isn't afraid to be vulnerable, as someone who feels emotions, as someone who admits they might not know the answer and is comfortable asking for some help every now and then. And we want them to do this while enjoying a hot cup of ingredients that are also helping their physical self become healthier.

So grab a cup of tea and sit down with a friend, family member, therapist, whomever, and change what it means to "Man Up".

OUR STORY

Man of Tea was dreamed up after a trip to the infamous “tea drawer” at my house, stocked full of herbal teas. My wife asked what I wanted to drink, and other than your typical Orange Pekoe or Earl Grey, everything else in the drawer seemed to be promoting aid for female ailments. From menstruation to helping line the uterus for a healthy pregnancy, I realised at that moment that options for a herbal tea blend promoting men’s health wasn’t readily available…

It was around this discovery that Man of Tea was born. With the help from our founders, one of whom has a degree in Agriculture, a Master of Science, a PhD in Molecular Biology, and most importantly an extensive knowledge of ayurvedic medicine, we came up with our first three blends to target a number of common symptoms and problems that men face daily.

While discussing this product it became evident that we wanted to create a company that was about more than just tea. As someone that has spent most of my adult life starting businesses, I have felt the stress and expectations that are put on entrepreneurs. I personally struggled, and continue to struggle, with anxiety and panic attacks. Creating a product that addressed these symptoms was very important to me. Not only did we create three teas that each have ingredients to help combat anxiety, we also decided that Man of Tea would address the larger issue by attempting to help remove the stigma around mental health and help men have conversations on the topic.

There are millions of men around the world that are dealing with their own challenges big and small and don’t feel like they have the tools, or quite simply, the permission to talk to their friends and family about what they are going through. I know men in my own life that have experienced trauma, disease, or severe anxiety and in every case I have tried to be an ear for them to share.

Let’s all try to change the stigma. Let's make it normal for men to share their challenges and their fears. Let's change what it means to “Man Up”. Let’s help people when they need it, so that they can get up and be strong again for the right reasons.
